Machine Hardware: ID Scanner Installation

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and setting up the ID Scanner for your machine. This unit is essential for age-restricted products and connects directly to the internal Android board.

Tools Required

  • Phillips Head Screwdriver

  • 7mm Socket Wrench

Step 1: Preparation and Safety

  1. Open the machine door to access the internal components.

  2. Power Off: Flip the power switch to OFF. Always ensure the machine is unpowered before connecting or disconnecting hardware from the Android board.

Step 2: Access the Mounting Area

  1. Locate the internal metal protective panel covering the Android board.

  2. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws securing this panel.

  3. Set the screws aside safely; removing this panel provides the necessary room to mount the scanner and access the USB ports.

Step 3: Remove Mounting Hardware

  1. Locate the mounting studs for the ID scanner on the door.

  2. Using your 7mm socket, remove the four nuts from the studs.

  3. Set the nuts aside for re-installation.

Step 4: Install the ID Scanner

  1. Mounting Plate: Place the scanner mounting plate onto the studs from the inside.

  2. Position the Scanner: Insert the ID scanner into the opening.

  3. Verify Alignment: Check the front of the machine to ensure the scanner is seated flush and oriented correctly (the scanning window should be visible and straight).

  4. Secure: Reinstall the four nuts onto the studs and tighten them down using your 7mm socket.

Step 5: Wiring and Cable Management

  1. Route the Cable: Undo the twist-tie on the scanner cable. Run the cord up along the inside of the door frame.

  2. USB Connection: Locate the Android board (found behind the panel you removed in Step 2).

  3. Plug In: Underneath the cooling fan, you will find two empty USB ports. Plug the scanner into either available port.

  4. Clean Up: Tuck the excess cord neatly inside the door frame or machine housing to ensure it doesn't get pinched when the door or panels are closed.

Step 6: Reassembly

  1. Close the internal protective metal panel.

  2. Reinstall the four Phillips head screws to secure the panel over the Android board.

Step 7: Power Up and Testing

  1. Turn the machine power ON and allow the software to load completely.

  2. Initiate a Sale: Select a product on the screen and tap Buy.

  3. Verification Screen: The software should now automatically prompt you to "Scan ID."

  4. Test the Scanner: Take a valid driver's license or state ID and place the barcode (on the back of the ID) in front of the scanner.

  5. Confirm: Once the scanner reads the ID, the software will allow you to proceed to the payment and purchase screen.
