Machine Hardware: Resolving Touchscreen Unresponsiveness

If your touchscreen is not responding, it is often due to a loose or damaged USB connection on the main control board. Follow these steps to re-seat the connection.

Updated this week

Phase 1: Accessing the Control Board

  1. Open the Machine: Use your keys to unlock the main door.

  2. Remove the Internal Panel: Locate the protective panel on the back of the door. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws and set the panel aside to reveal the internal electronics.

Phase 2: Identifying the Touchscreen Connection

  1. Locate the Android Board: Look for the red circuit board—this is the main Android board. It is easily identified by the cooling fan mounted on it.

  2. Inspect the USB Connection: Find the USB cable plugged into the board. This specific cable connects the board to the touchscreen.

  3. Check for Damage: Gently wiggle the cable. If the port feels loose, "wiggly," or the connection feels unstable, the port may be damaged, which causes the touch unresponsiveness.

Phase 3: Relocating the Cable

  1. Switch USB Ports: Unplug the touchscreen cable from its current port.

  2. Re-insert into a New Port: Plug the cable into the empty USB port directly beside the original one. Ensure it clicks in firmly and does not wiggle.

  3. Test the Screen: Power on or wake the machine to confirm the touchscreen is now responding to your touch.
