Machine Hardware: Android Reset Guide

Step-by-step instructions for performing an Android reset on a VTM vending machine when the screen is frozen or the operator menu is inaccessible.

When to use this guide

Use these instructions if your VTM machine is experiencing any of the following:

  • Screen is frozen or unresponsive

  • Cannot access the operator menu using the two-finger password method

  • Machine needs a full Android factory reset

What you'll need

  • Android reset USB stick

  • Access to the inside of the vending machine

  • Wi-Fi network credentials

Phase 1 — Preparation

Step 1: Check if a reset is needed

Try pressing two fingers on the screen and entering your password to access the operator menu. If the screen is frozen or unresponsive, proceed with the reset steps below.

Step 2: Open the machine

Unlock and open the front door of the vending machine to access the internal components.

Step 3: Locate the Android board

Find the red board inside the machine — this is the Android board. Look for an empty USB port on it.

Phase 2 — Android Reset

Step 4: Insert the reset USB stick

Plug the Android reset USB stick into the empty USB port on the red Android board. Let the device run through its reset process automatically.

Step 5: Wait for the restart signal

The machine will restart on its own. Watch the screen carefully and wait for the four colored dots to appear: Blue, Red, Green, Yellow.

Important: Remove the reset USB stick as soon as you see the four colored dots. Do not leave it plugged in during the boot process.

Step 6: Remove the USB stick

As soon as you see the four colored dots on screen, immediately remove the Android reset USB stick from the USB port.

Step 7: Let the machine finish booting

Close the machine door. Allow the machine to complete its full boot sequence from the front. Wait until the home screen appears before proceeding.

Phase 3 — Screen Orientation

After the machine boots, the screen orientation needs to be recalibrated. You must cycle through all four rotation settings in order.

Each time, navigate to: Settings → Display → Main Screen

Step 8: Open Display Settings

Tap Settings → Display → Main Screen.

Step 9: Set rotation to 90°

Select 90 degrees and confirm.

Step 10: Set rotation to 180°

Go back to Settings → Display → Main Screen and select 180 degrees.

Step 11: Set rotation to 270°

Go back to Settings → Display → Main Screen and select 270 degrees.

Note: The display may appear upside down or sideways during some of these steps. This is expected. Continue navigating through the settings even if the screen looks wrong.

Phase 4 — Wi-Fi & Software Install

Step 12: Connect to Wi-Fi

Tap Settings → Network and select your Wi-Fi network. Enter your password if required. Confirm the connection shows as "Connected" before continuing.

Step 13: Open the internet browser

Back out of all settings menus and open the internet browser app on the device.

Step 14: Navigate to the software download

Type the following URL exactly into the browser address bar and tap Go:

https://tinyurl.com/apkxx - Please contact support to get the latest version.

Step 15: Download the software

Wait for the file to download. When prompted, tap Download to confirm.

Step 16: Install the software

Once downloaded, tap the file to begin installation. Follow any on-screen prompts.

After the installation completes, your vending machine screen will return to its normal display. The Android reset is complete.

If the machine does not recover after following all steps, please contact your VTM support team for additional assistance.
