How to Use Screen Remote Control

The Screen Remote Control feature allows you to view and interact with your vending machine's screen directly from your laptop or computer — without needing to be physically present at the machine.

Overview

This is useful for checking the machine display, navigating Android settings, changing network configurations, clearing the app cache, and restarting the machine remotely.

There are two ways to access this feature from the VTM web portal.

Method A — Access via Machine List

This is the quickest method if you already know which machine you want to access.

1. Navigate to Machine List

Log in to the VTM web portal and from the left-hand navigation menu, click on User MachinesMachine List.

⬛ Black box — Machine List highlighted in the left navigation menu

🟢 Green box (left) — the machine's Online status badge, confirming it is currently connected

🟠 Orange box — the Screen Remote Control button in the Operation column, displayed in color because the machine is online and accessible

2. Launch Screen Remote Control

In the Operation column next to your machine, locate and click Screen Remote Control (🟠 orange box, Screenshot above).

  • This button will appear in color (active) when the machine is Online and the feature is available

  • If the machine is Offline, the Screen Remote Control text will appear greyed out and cannot be clicked — hovering your mouse over it will confirm it is inactive

  • Clicking the active button will open the remote screen in a new browser window

Method B — Access via Remote Login

Use this method to search for a specific machine by name or number and access additional remote control options.

1. Navigate to Remote Login

From the left-hand navigation menu, click on User MachinesRemote Login.

🔵 Blue box — Remote Login highlighted in the left navigation menu

🔴 Red arrow — the blue arrow (›) on the right-hand side of the Equipment Information and Control panel, used to expand the remote control options

The Remote Login page displays a map view of your machine locations alongside an Equipment Information and Control panel on the right side of the screen. This panel shows key machine details including:

  • Machine Name and Machine Number

  • User Name and Machine Location

  • Online Status

  • Order Quantity and Total Sales

  • Online Time in Minutes

2. Search for Your Machine

In the Equipment Information and Control panel on the right:

  • Enter your Machine Number or Machine Name in the respective search fields

  • Click the green Search button to locate your machine

3. Expand the Remote Control Options

Once your machine appears in the panel, click the blue arrow (›) (🔴 red arrow) on the right edge of the panel to expand the additional remote control options.

🟢 Green arrow — the Screen Remote Control link, highlighted and ready to be selected

The expanded panel will display the following options:

  • Screen Remote Control (🟢 green arrow) — opens the live machine screen in a new browser window

  • Turn on Ethernet — remotely enables the machine's Ethernet connection

  • Turn off Ethernet — remotely disables the machine's Ethernet connection

Click Screen Remote Control to launch the remote session.

3. Using the Remote Screen

Once the Screen Remote Control session launches, your machine's live display will appear in a new browser window.

This is an exact live view of what is currently displayed on your vending machine's screen. In the top-right corner of the window, you will see a Shortcuts panel with the following controls:

  • TV Keys — sends standard Android TV remote key inputs to the machine

  • Back — simulates pressing the Back button on the machine

  • Home — navigates to the Android home screen on the machine

  • Menu — opens the Android menu

  • Shell — opens a command shell for advanced use

  • Logcat — displays real-time system logs for troubleshooting

  • − / + — adjusts the display zoom level (e.g., 74%)

4. Accessing the Android Home Screen Remotely

From the Shortcuts panel, click Home to navigate to the Android home screen on the machine.

The Home option is highlighted in blue in the Shortcuts panel when selected

Tapping Home bypasses the need to enter the machine's admin password through the physical navigation bar. Once on the Android home screen, you can remotely perform the following actions:

  • Change the network connection type (e.g., switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet), as long as the machine is still online

  • Adjust the machine's date and time settings

  • Force stop the VapeTM application

  • Clear the application cache

  • Restart the VapeTM application

  • Restart the machine via the Android power menu

5. Restarting or Powering Off the Machine

To restart the machine remotely, navigate to the Android home screen using the Home shortcut (Step 4), then access the Android power menu. You will see two options:

  • Power off — shuts the machine down completely

  • Restart — reboots the machine and relaunches the VapeTM application automatically

⚠️ Important Notes

📶 Poor signal — feature not working: If your machine shows as Online but the Screen Remote Control session fails to load or connect, this indicates that the machine is connected to a network but the signal strength is too weak to support a remote screen session. In this case, the machine may still be processing sales normally — the remote feature simply requires a stronger connection to function.

🎥 Laggy video on remote screen: If you have a video advertisement running as a screen saver and it appears laggy during your remote session, this does not necessarily mean the video is playing poorly on the physical machine. Since the video is already downloaded locally to the machine, it will play smoothly on screen regardless of network quality. The lag you see in the remote session is caused by the poor network signal affecting the remote stream only.

Power Off warning: If you use the Power off option, the machine will shut down completely and you will immediately lose remote access. The machine will need to be manually restarted by someone physically present at the location. Use this option with caution and only when absolutely necessary.

Greyed out button: If the Screen Remote Control button appears greyed out in the Machine List, the machine is currently offline and cannot be accessed remotely. Ensure the machine is powered on and connected to a network before attempting to use this feature.
